HOW IT WAS

Teachers

Ruth skipped into her first dance class more than 25 years ago, and has since been dancing as many styles as she can get her feet on.

Ruth’s 15+ years as a dance instructor have taken her on teaching adventures across the US, Canada, Europe and Southeast Asia. She has continually developed both her teaching and her dancing skills. Ruth is known for her ability to craft explanations that fit students’ learning styles. She brings a vibrant mixture of deep technical knowledge, passion for movement, and silly fun that students can’t help but connect with. She has a long-standing love affair with close-embrace connection, and is curating a fine collection of fishtail variations.

Mike Grosser is one of the most recognized names in the Blues dance community. Mike is a top level instructor, dancer, choreographer, performer, and mentor. Students across continents rave about Mike’s insights, personality, and breadth and depth of knowledge.

As an instructor, Mike strives to put himself in his students’ shoes so that he can relate material as intuitively and thoroughly as possible. He loves seeing students’ eyes light up when they understand a concept or feel a movement work naturally in their body for the first time.
Mike lives and breathes dance. He is constantly honing his skills and developing new ideas. If you run into him at grocery store, on public transit, in a museum, or on a mountain top, you’ll probably catch him dancing.

Philippa and Vivien met on the dance floor in 2011 and hit it off immediately. Since then, they have been teaching and competing together across Europe, as well as in their respective scenes (Oxford UK and Malmö, Sweden) – until they finally found a common home in Paris, where they teach weekly classes in Lindy-hop, Solo Jazz Roots, and of course Blues dancing. They believe that couple dancing finds its roots in solo body movement and musicality -but solid technique is a must. With Philippa’s background in gymnastics and physiotherapy, and Vivien’s boundless enthusiasm, they want to share the idea that any dance should leave you with a big, unshakeable grin on your face !

Agnieszka has found Blues to be a perfect form of dance expression for her as a dance that reflects her dancing story: it has African roots, some tango impact and a spell of jazz elegance. She started dancing at the age of 7 with ballroom, to then turn to African and modern jazz dances. She loves inspirations from all kinds of styles and Blues seems to cover that. Agnieszka has been teaching a variety of classes in Germany and Spain and now tries to build a Blues scene in Warsaw with her partner, Konrad Pruśniewski.

“The beauty of Blues is in its indefiniteness…. There are no steps, choreographies… a magnet attraction of two poles resulting in a piece of intimate creation between prolific, open dancers, willing to experiment while discovering different layers of rhythm and music”.

Konrad as a curious person tried a variety of different activities. From primary school he had been learning Japanese martial arts which as a result led him from soft to a bit harder styles. When in 2013 by coincidence he discovered lindy hop, boxing gloves had been abandoned permanently. Since then dance turned his world up-side-down and revealed different ways of enjoying life. Hard work led him to fast progress and also several achievements in Lindy Hop and Blues contests.

Creativity and curiosity directed him into Blues in which he found complementation of dancing and also deeper connection and feeling. Dancing with Agnieszka opened new tracks and started a new chapter in their lives. Creating and building new, not known and not scheduled or imposed form out of expression in each dance is the thing most valuable for Konrad. During mentioned process you never know what will be revealed. It just might be ordinary fun but also it could become a masterpiece understandable and visible only for two.

Miranda loves everything about dancing, and brings energy, musicality, and positivity to any event she goes to. Her first dance was blues, which lead to fusion, lindy hop, and balboa. The recent addition of tango has made her an accomplished and versatile dancer. She started teaching lindy, blues, and fusion in Amsterdam and later brought her passion to Copenhagen. Her teaching lets her share her passion with others in a fun and inclusive way. To her, the core of the dances is joy, musicality, and the connection she has with her partner.

David first studied Lindy Hop, Blues dance and Argentine Tango before falling in love with Fusion dance nearly a decade ago. As a musician, he composes music with an emphasis on rhythm, tempo and musicality for partner dance, and has performed at festivals around the world. As a dancer, he believes that Fusion is, at its best, an experiment in playing with connection, vocabulary and aesthetic from multiple dance-form.

The Good Company Band was founded three years ago in Kiev as a duet of the voice by Evgeniya Gudkova and guitar by Evgeny Lazo. Later Alex Kravchenko, the piano, joined the band. They are playing traditional blues inspired by bluesmen that were playing delta blues and also by soul performancers and jazz musicions of big band era. This band is a constant guest on dance parties and blues nights of Kiev.

NoNameBluesBand

NoNameBluesBand started their career on the stage of the WinterEnd 2018 and since then they are often guests at the bluesnights. Among those guys are our blues dancers so they play only what they would dance to by themselves with pleasure, so they managed to conquer our hearts during very short period of time. All members are united with the same deep love to blues and after a while they found their own unique style. The band plays covers for famous and not so famous songs in fusion style, adding interesting rythms and breaks special for blues dancers. And all this is mixed with the most juicy blues compositions.
Evenings with NoNameBlues are long remembered for their sincerity and special romance. We have no doubts your soul will sing along with us!
